The inflatable octopus was built using basic geometric shapes such as a horse shoe like shape for the head and wave/curve shapes for the tentacles. As we cut we made sure to leave enough space for the melting. Luckily, the iron a team mate had did not require the use of aluminum foil so the process of fusing the piece began to get quicker. Last, we turned the pieces inside out to add a natural clean and curvy shape to each piece, then, with a tool that our group made, we just lay the structure down and melted all the pieces together till the octopus was complete. Problems encountered was knowing what area of the octopus we were working on due to general size (huge). Also, there were many pieces to the structure, so keeping track of it all was very tedious. To our disadvantage, the wind was very strong. So even though our project had no problem inflating, the wind would overpower the structure and blow it down. Also, due to the increase of heat both inside and outside, hole would begin to form and would have to be patched up if it got to server. The process of making the octopus had one major struggle that was able to be solved by two of our team mates, it was making the head top (head) round instead of bulky and pointy. The happy accidents that occurred was the wind blew the tentacles creating a nice visual, it was if the tentacles were flaying around in panic because the octopus lacked water. When we created the skirt we expected it to be completely flat but it was not and helped add to the circular shape of the octopus’s head. Lastly, for the majority of the project assembling it together was fairly easy and simple.

The world is full of fantasies; people have sunny happy ones, or dark evil ones. The Survival Research Laboratories are way beyond these. These people are wild. They fulfill the fantasy of destructive pyromaniacs. While watching their videos, all I heard was, BOOM, BANG, and CHEERS. Now I’m all for watching things blow up, but their shows don’t seem safe enough for me to be in attendance. My fantasy is to make things explode from a safe distance away. The audience that attends their events feels like they just hit the lottery. Some live for Survival Research Laboratories, while others would die to get away from it.

Survival Research Laboratories reminds me of Monster Jam. Monster Jam is the event with the huge monster trucks that will crush a building flat in 4.2 seconds. The trucks race each other to see which monster is the fastest, and then they have freestyle round where they obliterate everything in sight. Cars, buses, and vans are all victims during this event. Survival Research Laboratories and Monster Jam are similar because during the whole show it’s pure 100% destruction that takes place. The only main difference between the two is that the Monster Jam seats are located so high that audience members are less likely to get hurt. With Survival Research Laboratories, the seats are so close to the action that anything is liable to happen at anytime and that is not my type of fantasy.

“Yanks with tanks” is the perfect term used to describe the people that run Survival Research Laboratories. All of their work promote mechanized violence because they make it ok for others to go out and create and destroy. Many people across the world attend their show and or watch them on YouTube. Out of that crowd, I know that at least half of them came up with a bright idea to create a monster. Out of that few; I know that at least half that actually blew something up.

Just like I stated in the beginning, Survival Research Laboratories main audience members are destructive pyromaniacs. These people feed off of these events. This isn’t a hobby for them; it’s a way of life. I believe that they choose to host their events in Amsterdam because their rules are less strict than other places and much safer. The other places are war torn countries. That wouldn’t be a very smart idea to host the type of work that they do in those countries for the simple fact that a lot of people can be harmed at their event. SRL wake up to blow up, and go to sleep to do it all over again.
Jackie Schroederhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/18181559207101110298noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5008339648128271478.post-64269756237111270592011-04-17T20:28:00.000-07:002011-04-17T20:28:51.339-07:00The Big Idea. Our group took a look at all the octopus models we made and decided to fuse the different ideas to get one giant octopus. Me and Danielle created the head with 4 geometric shapes (triangles rounded at the top). Then we took the way Krystal made the tentacles. We are going to add suction cups on the flat bottom of the tentacles. The face will be decorated with 2 eyes and a mouth. The mouth will be an opening for people to go inside. Inside will be dark purple koolaid to drink. And ink to play in. We are also going to make sweet octopus costumes....get ready.Jackie Schroederhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/18181559207101110298noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5008339648128271478.post-48463471054068873402011-04-07T20:10:00.000-07:002011-04-07T20:10:09.628-07:00Essence of Gender/Metaphor for Body.

A. What was the most enjoyable thing you saw? Why?
- A Bull Fight by Jacques Raymond Brascassat. His painting is so realistic, but the eyes are what drew me to it. They really pop out and look real.

B. What was the most disturbing thing you saw? Why?
- Reclining Nude by Macirice de Vlaminck. It looks like her nipples are bleeding. Also the blue color on her eyes and face makes me feel uncomfortable.

C. What piece in the museum is the most like something you might make yourself, of would like to make, Why?
- Physichromie 405 by Carlos Cruz- Diez. I would like to make this because its very eye catching and colorful, kind of how my art work turns out.
Critique and Photos. The group that did the critique on my project said...
- They felt pain, it made their eye hurt.
- Size was good.
- I should have added something more, could have made it convex like an actual eye.
(good advice!)
Overall Composition
- I think my overall composition is good, the use of negative space helps it. Also the marks created relates the emotion pain very well. The bow sticking out shows what my story was about.
The only thing I would change about it is make it convex like an eye is, and the part where the bow sticks in it dents in.

2. Sense of mood/emotion or sensory experience
- The sense of mood is pain/agony.

3 Relationship of mood/emotion to mark
- The mark completely relates this emotion. The spikey marking, looks sharp and veiny. Also the shape of the eye with a violen bow sticking in it conveys pain.

4.. Use of negative space
- I definitely used more negative space than marking space. This goes along with my story because an eye has more negative space.

5. Use or medium/materials.
- The violen bow sticking out, glossy white paint, shape of the canvas all are great. I would change the way I did the foam, I could have played with it more creating a convex look.

6. Presentation
- Presentation was nice, hanging on a wall, and the wire behind hide the way it was hung.

Here is my new idea...

My memory...
- In middle school I tried to fit in, and I had this friend who was popular and always wanted to do bad things. I always followed what she did cause I wanted to be popular too. I gave into peer pressure, one time especially. We were in a gas station and she wanted to steal some condoms. So we did, and realized they were discusting things. My mom later read on my computer that we stole them and went to the gas station and told them. Either we had to work for the gas station for a whole day, or go to jail. So we both decided to work. I had to clean the boys bathroom....ceiling to floor. She just had to clean all the windows.

Giving into peer pressure is conforming to someone, like a condom.. the thing we stole. And it caused us to get introuble.

So.... Im going to get a doll and put a condom over her head. And put socially unexceptable things on her... like tatoos, peircings, put slutty clothes on her. And then put handcuffs around her hands showing the getting caught part.

Jackie Schroederhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/18181559207101110298noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5008339648128271478.post-63088858168073510212011-03-12T19:48:00.000-08:002011-03-12T19:48:23.087-08:00Visual Metaphors. Here are three that I came up with about when I got spanked when I was little and the paddle cracked.

1. Ill have a wooden paddle with a crack down the middle. And some crooked teeth on it with braces. Showing that spanking is painful but it was for a good cause. Just like braces.

2. Have a wooden paddle with a crack down it, and a traffic light on it. Showing spanking directs your way.

3. Have a wooden paddle with a crack down it, and a one way sign on it. Showing that spaking directs you in the right way. Possibly pointing to a light.

Im gonna spend time thinking of some other ones, but this metaphor thing is hard for me to understand.Jackie Schroederhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/18181559207101110298noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5008339648128271478.post-46126096559145759662011-03-10T15:43:00.000-08:002011-03-10T15:43:54.553-08:00Lecture Assignment 3/4

(Taken by me, someone I know)

A. What is the purpose of this photo; why was it taken? why do you keep it? why did you choose it for this assignment? What is its significance to you?

- The purpose of this photo was to capture my little cousins personality. It was taken because she was happy, it was a good time to take a picture. I keep this photo because I rarely get to see her and it makes me smile. I chose this photo for this assignment because her expression was priceless. Its significant because its a photo of family, new family.

B. What is the emotional relationship between the photographer and the subject? how does that influence the way the picture was taken? How does it affect the way you look at the photo? What is the photographer' atttude toward the subject? What is the subject's attitude towards the photographer?

- The emotional relationship is happy, playful between me and my cousin. This influences the way the photo was taken, it was taken while she was smiling. It makes me feel happy when I look at this photo. The attitude towards the subject is caring and happy. The subject's attitude towards the photographer is happy.

C. In what context is this photo intended to be viewed?, by who, for how long? Do you think you will still remember this photo in ten years?

- The photo is intended to be viewed in happy way. By family members, for as long as they want. Yes i think I will remember this photo, when she grows up it will be a photo I will show her.

(Taken of me by someone else)

a. what is the purpose of this photo; why was it taken? why do you keep it? why did you choose it for this assignment? What is its significance to you?

- The purpose was for my mom to capture me, my brother and cousin all together. I keep it because my brothers face makes me laugh. I chose it because we all have different facial expressions towards the photographer. Its significant because it has people I care about it in it.

b. What is the emotional relationship between the photographer and the subject? how does that influence the way the picture was taken? How does it affect the way you look at the photo? What is the photographer' atttude toward the subject? What is the subject's attitude towards the photographer?

- The emotional relationship is a motherly one. It influences the way the picture was taken, it causes our facial expressions to be different. It affects the way I look at the photo because I know who took it and what we were doing. The photographers attitude towards the subject is caring. The subject's attitude towards the photographer is jokingly.

c. In what context is this photo intended to be viewed?, by who, for how long? Do you think you will still remember this photo in ten years?

- It is intended to be viewed by family members, by how ever long. I think that we will because its three people together that normally arent together.

a. what is the purpose of this photo; why was it taken? why do you keep it? why did you choose it for this assignment? What is its significance to you?

- This photo was probably taken to depict who the man is. I keep it because I think its an interesting black and white photo and I needed it for a class. I chose this because it interests me, his expression and clothing. It has no significance to me.

b. What is the emotional relationship between the photographer and the subject? how does that influence the way the picture was taken? How does it affect the way you look at the photo? What is the photographer' atttude toward the subject? What is the subject's attitude towards the photographer?

- The emotional relationship between the photographer and the subject is probably professional. It influences it because its more serious. It makes me feel contimplative/serious when I look at this photo. The photographers attitutude towards the subject is probably professional. The subject's attitude towards the photographer is serious.

c. In what context is this photo intended to be viewed?, by who, for how long? Do you think you will still remember this photo in ten years?

- Its to be viewed by anybody, for how ever long its on google. I dont think i will remeber this photo in 10 years.

- The frame will either be wood or metal.

- On the counties in each state I have lived in I am going to place black and white pictures I have taken that remind me of memories in each state. Im going to write the memory on the picture with white paint, or white out. The county I used to live in will be raised up and the most importatnt memory will be placed on it. The states will be made out of cardboard. Painted in the back...black. Each state will be connected with the way i got there...car or plane. They will be connected to the frame somehow....metal rod...I will play with things and see what works the best.

Hopefully it works out like I think it will!

And hopefully I come up with enough memories to fill in the counties...The state I lived in the longest has the least counties...how wonderful.

He combines these two things with his love for preaching the world of God. I think what Mr. Acres does is art. He sends a message of God through his art work. His work reminds us that the art world does work in mysterious ways. His art is similiar to art Ive seen because he does a sort of performance art. He also does paintings, photoshop work, etc... It also isnt like any art Ive seen because he is preaching God's words through art by being an actual preacher. I think Mr. Acres is very serious about this. He has been bood out by some artists because of his beliefs, but some critics have embraced him only because they think he's kidding.
