Research: collage-assemblage-pop up books. Research: Lance Letscher, Rauschenberge, Schwitters
-Principles of Composition:
*Balance
*Contrast
*Focus (Emphasis)
*Movement
*Pattern
*Proportion
*Rhythm
*Unity
- Rhythm:
*When the regular repetition of particular forms or elements occurs in a work of art, that work is said
to have rhythm. It suggests motion.
- Repetition:
*Repetition is created when objects, shapes, space, light, direction, lines etc. are repeated in artwork.

-Collage:
*From the French meaning "paste up". The combination of pieces of cloth, magazines and other found objects to create artwork.

- Assemblage:
* is an artistic process in which a three dimentional artistic composition is made from putting together found objects.

- Pop-Up Books:
* The term popu-up book is often applied to any three-dimensional or movable book, although properly the umbrella term movable book covers pop-ups, transformations, tunnel books, volvelles, flaps, pull tabs, pop-outs, pull downs, and more, each of which performs in a different manner.
- Lance Letscher:
* Born in 1962 Austin, Tx.
* Still lives in Austin, Tx.
* Studied at UT in Austin.
* Has a B.F.A and a M.F.A

Critique on Object Proposals
This was the proposal was chosen out of the my three:
The proposal that had accumulated the most marks was the one we create out of cardboard. Our tables then helped us perfect our ideas.
I was told that when I create this structure that it should come down to the middle of my stomach, and inside I should build straps that rest on my shoulders. This would better secure it onto my body.
We all tried to think of a way to make the eye lids blink; the only possible way we thought of would be with strings attatched to the eye lid somehow and pull them down. But the problem with this is I wouldnt know how to lift them back up.
Instead of blinking the eye lids, Im going to have one open and one shut. The one that is open i will create an eye, and the my own eye will look out the pupil of the cardboard eye.

Studies of Negative Space, Eye Movement, & Visual Weight/Force
Our table groups chose three Gestalt dot compositions out of the 15 we made. Then we had to create two types of maps on tracing paper using our three dot compositions:
Contour Map
Magnetic Maps
15 Black and White Gestalt Dot Compositions
We had to chose 15 of the 30 Gestalt dot thumbails and blow them up onto 6X6 paper. Instead of pencil, this time we colored them in with sharpie.
Here are the ones i chose:

Dot Thumbnails/Habit.
My dot habits:
- Most thumbnails use a large circle.
- Not alot of thumbnails are centered.
- Spacing is similar.
- Use larger quantity of dots.
- Use a small one in every thumbnail.
- Relational shift of size.

3 Proposals for Object to Body
We all had to pick an object out of a box with out looking, this is the object I picked
A contacts lens case
Then, we had to come up with 3 proposals of how we can incorporate it onto our bodies when we create a 2-3 foot structure of it out of cardboard.
Here are my proposals:
Proposal 1
Proposal 2

Creation of The Cardboard Spheres
Before this project, cardboard to me was just some material that was commonly used to form boxes. I hadn't messed with it out of this form, so to create a sphere using cardboard was a foreign concept to me. A 45 minute ride home gave me just enough time to brainstorm this foreign concept. When i started creating the spheres I first realized cardboard is a very stiff material and does not like to be bent. I finally decided to cut triangles and glue them together to hopefully form a sphere. The first try was unsuccessful; I then came to the conclusion, measuring each triangle equally is very important when trying to create a sphere.
With glue. Skin of a sphere.
The second sphere I created used glue and we were to create an infastructure. I had a few different ideas for this one, but chose the easiest (or so i thought). Cutting perfect circles with a box cutter and finding the exact center are very difficult things, especially if you dont think to use a home-made compass.
With glue. Infastructure of a Sphere.
The third and thankfully final sphere was to be created with out glue. This was the most difficult one for me to do. I had my whole family and boyfriend brainstorming for this one. I attempted one way, which took about three hours with everyone helping me cut shapes. It ended up looking more like an Indian head dress than a sphere. After the feeling of failure subsided and a little help from my engineer Dad, I went back to creating a new design. Taking on the look of a soccer ball, I cut pentagons and hexagons creating tabs on all sides. I cut slits on these tabs, and very carefully they all slide together finally forming a sphere ....with no glue!!
No glue.
This was a stressful little project, but I definitely learned some things about cardboard.

The First Day of WASH
I didn't know what to exepect for the first day, I admit I was a tad nervous. But to my suprise it turned out to be quite fun and interesting. Having to choose between a nightmare and a daydream, I chose daydream. I started thinking of things that made me happy, and I immediately thought of childhood. We had to construct props out of newspaper and tape. I created an ice-cream cone, a pinwheel, and a hairbow. The fashion show was fun, it helped me get comfortable fast with being in front of a class. It was also entertaining to see all the different props and acts people chose, it just showed me how different everyone thinks.
During the afternoon we took notes. After reading the notes I took, I realized next note session I'm going to position myself in a spot where i can see all that was written.
Im exited for this class, and to see what comes next.
